Meeting Upon Arrival
When you arrive at the Masonic entrance, please inform the staff that you are a nursing assistant student from ZANDU HEALTH INITIATIVE attending clinical. Our meeting location is Shelly Wiggins' room on D3.
If you need assistance upon arrival:
- Text Clinical Instructor Steve Mandieka: 952-208-5590 (Texting is preferred due to poor signal in some areas.)
- If unable to reach Steve, text or call Survival at 612-524-9881.
- Alternatively, call the Masonic Homes front desk at 952-948-7000 and ask for directions to the student clinical meeting area.
Confidentiality (HIPAA Policy)
⚠️ Strictly Enforced: Cell phone use—including texting, calls, or photos—is prohibited while providing care to residents. Violations will result in disciplinary action in line with the School Code of Conduct.
Dress Code
- Eyewear or Face Shield (as needed)
- Athletic shoes (no open-toe shoes)
- Transfer belt (provided at the facility, no need to bring your own)
- Short fingernails (max 1/4-inch, no artificial nails)
- No hoodies, fanny packs, or sunglasses while providing care
- Hair longer than shoulder length must be tied back
- Navy blue uniform required
- Student ID/Name Badge must be visible at all times
Meals & Breaks
- Breaks are assigned by your instructor, typically aligning with your assigned nursing assistant’s schedule.
- Bring a boxed lunch or snack. A refrigerator and microwave are available for use.
- Alternatively, food is available for purchase at the cafeteria.
Personal Belongings
Bring only essential items. If you bring personal items (purse, books, skills kit, bags, or phone), please bring a lock to secure them.
Patient/Resident Care Assignments
- You will be assigned to shadow a staff member and progressively transition to independent resident care over your two or three clinical days.
- Typically, you will work with the same resident(s) or staff member throughout your clinical period, but assignments may be adjusted by your instructor based on staff availability and student needs.
⏳ Attendance Requirement:
- You must complete all two clinical days to successfully pass.
- Be on time.
- Early departures are not allowed unless approved by the instructor.
