BLENDED/ ONLINE/ HYBRID | FRIDAY | Nursing Assistant Training - June 2023

WIOA: NAT001: This course introduces the concepts of basic human needs and the function of the nursing assistant in long term care and/or home health care. Basic nursing skills will be demonstrated and practiced in the laboratory setting. Upon successful completion of classroom studies, the student will participate at minimum 16 hours of supervised clinical experience in a long term care setting. Upon successful completion, the student is eligible to take the state Nursing Assistant Registry Exam.

This course is a prerequisite for most nursing {Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN)} programs. It meets the objectives of Federal and State Statutory requirements for nursing assistant training. Our program uses the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) curriculum therefore transferable technical college/community college/or university.

PLAN AHEAD

Blended/online students meet online on a weekly basis on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and ThursdayUpon completion of weekly online readings and independent skills practice, registered students meet weekly Face2Face on Fridays from 0900 - 1500 (9:00am - 3:00pm) for proctored exams, skills practice and return demonstration. Face2Face class days are June 9th, 16th and 23rd 2023.

An alternate day for proctored exams, skills practice and return demonstration must be arranged by the Program Coordinator/ Director prior to starting the course.

Reimbursement for Tuition and Fees: Both federal and state law require Medicare-certified health care facilities to reimburse nursing assistants for the cost of their training and testing if they meet the following conditions:

  1. The nursing assistant has received a job offer from the facility within 12 months of completing the training and testing. The facility is not obligated to reimburse the nursing assistant if more than 12 months have passed since completion of training and testing.
  2. The nursing assistant has not already been reimbursed by another facility. Reimbursement must be made by the first facility where the nursing assistant is employed 90 days from the date of the job offer.
  3. The nursing assistant has not quit or been terminated within 90 days of the job offer.
  4. The nursing assistant has actually paid for the cost of training and testing him/herself. It is important to keep all receipts, as the facility is not required to reimburse the nursing assistant without proof that he or she paid for the training and materials.

Nursing assistants must be reimbursed for the following expenses:

  1. Tuition and mandatory fees and insurance
  2. Required textbooks and supplies
  3. Uniforms and shoes that are required for the clinical experience
  4. Mileage: To be reimbursed, the student must have kept mileage records and must request reimbursement.
  5. Cost of the State Competency Exam: The facility is required to reimburse the student for the cost of the test and up to two retakes. (If either portion of the test is not passed in three attempts, the nursing assistant must retake the nursing assistant course).

Curriculum: This class uses the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Nursing Assistant/Home Health Curriculum. 


Flexible Payment Plans: Our program offers flexible payment plans to students admitted in the program. Employer sponsored or government sponsored students should select the Offline Payment option to register for the course. To start the course, please bring complete documentation from your employer or case worker by the first day of class.

Standard Policy for Payment Plans: Pay one third of your tuition to start the course, balance is payable on a weekly basis until balance is paid in full. The student is required to have ZERO balance in his/her ZHI student account in order to attend clinical. Credit card on file and minimum $20 processing fee may be required for invoicing registration costs for Offline Payment Plan.

Prerequisites: Recent mantoux test (within last three months prior to start of clinical), COVID Vaccination or Exemption Letter from Primary Care Provider, ability to lift more than 25 lbs, passing scores on the reading comprehension test and cleared background study. 

Notes: Individuals who provide direct contact services to clients of licensed facilities are required to have criminal background studies. Disqualified persons will NOT be permitted to work in these facilities unless clearance is obtained from the Minnesota Department of Human Services (MN DHS) and/or Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
